In Fort Asperen is nog tot 24 september het spektakel Flood Warning van Peter Greenaway te zien, horen en vooral te ervaren. Veel water gespetter (laarzen mee), licht- en geluidseffecten. Peter raadt ons Hollanders aan vooral veel arken te bouwen.
In Fort Asperen, the spectacular exhibition Flood Warning by Peter Greenaway can be seen and heard but most of all, experienced. With a lot of spattering water (boots are supplied) and impressive light and sound effects. Peter's advice to the Dutch: start building arks.
"De ijskap smelt, de zee stijgt, de Amerikaanse Inlichtingendienst heeft de zakenwereld gewaarschuwd niet in Nederlandse ondernemingen te investeren omdat het land, dat al ver onder de zeespiegel ligt, zal overstromen in de komende acht jaar", zo orakelt de Engelse regisseur Peter Greenaway. En stelt zichzelf de vraag of Nederland er niet goed aan zou doen om arken te bouwen?
"The ice cap is melting, sea levels are rising, the American Intelligence Service has warned the business world not to invest in companies in the Netherlands because the country, already far below sea level, will be inundated within the next eight years" warns the English film director Peter Greenaway. His question: shouldn't the Dutch be building arks?
Op deze warme dinsdag in september waren er vooral bezoekers met veel of juist weinig haar, maar grijs was het bijna altijd. Ik denk dat er in het weekeinde veel kinderen rondspetteren in de kelder (een laagje water net diep genoeg om natte voeten te krijgen, maar ook met roosters om droog over te komen alleen zie je dan niet alles).

Deze bollen met water staan op de rondgang en worden van onderen af aangelicht, gestuurd door het geluid, een beetje spookachtig dus. In de ruimtes achter de ronde boogjes staan koffers vol met zaken die wij als mens of dier mee de ark in moeten nemen.
These bottles filled with water, in the circular hall space, are lit from below. The the light effects are prompted by sudden explosions of sound, creating a spooky atmosphere. In the spaces behind the archways are placed (mostly old, mouldy leather) suitcases filled with all kinds of things that we - people or animals - would need to take with us into the ark.
Bovenop het dak van het fort staat deze aanzet tot de ark, een prachtige bekroning van het project Flood Warning van deze 'alleskunner'.
On top of the roof of the fort stand the beginnings of the ark, the crowning glory of the project Flood Warning by this 'man of all trades'.
